Lillian was born to a religious family in 1890 London. Her childhood was unremarkable, though she became a devout Catholic while attending a Catholic Girl’s School. Her family was killed when she was 11 and she moved into the Orphanage. She loved helping around the church and spending time with the nuns. It was her dream to become a nun one day and as soon as she was old enough, she became an instructor at the school and began her studies before she could move to the convent.
She had a passion for knowledge and felt it was her mission in life to ensure the salvation of the souls of the young. She moved to Louisiana on her 20th Birthday in October of 1910 and joined a convent in New Orleans. She was to teach at a Catholic School for orphaned girls under orders from the Mother Superior. She devoted a large amount of her time to the girls in her school and spent a good many hours tutoring them. She wanted to be the head mistress and mother superior for her school so that she would have final say over what forms of punishment were allowed within its walls. Some of the other sisters were cruel in their dealings with the girls, which meant that Lillian quickly became a favorite teacher because of the compassion she showed them. It also meant that Lillian was not looked upon very kindly by the sisters.
Her ideals didn't quite run in line with the strict environment of the mother superior and she was removed from her teaching position and placed as the confessional sister. It was her job to hear the sins of the young so that perhaps it would help her to see the need for the strict discipline that was handed down to the girls on a daily basis. She spent the majority of 5 years in the confessionals hearing every twisted and tormented plea for salvation from the girls she believed to be innocent, corrupted by the wars and villainy of the world around them.
It was in the summer of 1917 that she met a strange man named Alexandre Hayes. He was a soldier in the army and had many sins to confess. Guilt and sin weighed heavily on him and she immediately began trying to save his damned soul. She was unaware at the time just how damned his soul really was. Alexandre saw Lillian's potential and in seeking redemption for his sins, Alexandre Hayes gave her what he felt would be the embodiment of her deepest desires, to be the vessel of salvation for so many. He embraced Lillian into the World of Darkness to be his personal salvation.
The Embrace does strange things to people. They are never the same as they were in mortal life, but for Lillian, it was as if it broke her. She refused to feed at first, saying he had damned her to hell and she would starve before she would kill. Eventually the beast took over and she had no choice. It was all Alexandre could do to keep her in check. She would starve herself into a hunger frenzy and then feed on the blood of animals in gluttonous amounts. It was a pattern that held in place for over 2 years. Lillian’s blood grew potent rather quickly due to the constant frenzies and gluttonous feedings and when she was forced to feed on humans due to the potency of her blood, she railed even harder against the feeding. She lost her faith and disavowed the existence of God. Eventually she accepted her damned nature and studied Kindred nature. She studied all of the Covenants, and Clans and she gained a base understanding of her condition but nothing that satisfied the hunger for knowledge she had. She’d been damned, but not to hell. There was something out there that would explain it to her. And she would find it.
In the early 1920’s she met a woman named Hope. Hope was intriguing to Lillian, She’d only been Kindred for a few short years and Hope was something new to her. A woman with unspeakable hobbies and the same thirst for knowledge that Lillian had, the two of them became fast friends. They bonded strongest over their mutual love of Literature, Intellectual pursuits and the Occult. They traveled together for years and still to this night they remain together. Lillian considers Hope a sister.
In 1925, She met a man who simply called himself Michael. It was the first time she had felt any attraction to a man. He never gave her a last name, or any other name and when she met him he simply introduced himself by saying "Hmm...Lillian is it? Well, You may call me...Michael. Yes, Micheal will do. Let's just leave it at that." Michael was a Daeva, and a member of the Lancea Sanctum. He was mysterious and handsome and filled her with a Faith in the Divine that she’d lost after embrace. Lillian became fascinated with him. She spent a good many nights in his company learning many things from him. It was he who fanned her interest in the Lancea Sanctum and recruited her to their ranks. Her test of Initiation was to recruit someone else to the covenant as well and so she turned to her only friend, Hope. She spoke to Hope of the covenant and after many discussions, Hope agreed to join her. Micheal taught her about the Dark Mysteries and hidden knowledge of the Covenant. Lillian excelled at the blood sorceries of the Covenant and quickly found herself devoted to the teachings of Longinus while Hope maintained a passing interest.
It was in the summer of 1930 that she met a young woman named Josephina Deveaux. Josephina had dark auburn curls the framed her porcelain complexion perfectly and her Jade Green Eyes seemed to call to Lillian. Lillian found herself enamored with the girl. She was aroused in ways she’d not felt since before embrace, and in ways she was raised to believe were sinful. She watched Josephina for weeks. She would stalk her silently from the shadows, just watching her. Learning her. Studying her as though she was some sort of Academic Conquest. She was a dancer. A performer. A temptress. Lillian found herself fascinated with, she tugged at Lillian’s passions like nothing else ever had.
One night, as Josephina was walking home from her stint at the club, and Lillian was following her; some poor sot tried to pull her into an alley way and rape her. Something snapped in Lillian and she became exceptionally lucid. She descended upon the man in a virulent attack and killed him where he stood. Josephina lay in the alleyway in a puddle of blood, a single street light shining down upon her motionless body, red staining the pink satin of her dress. Her pearl necklace had broken in the altercation and now lay strewn across the alley. She acted as if on instinct and fed the woman her blood, willing her to live. Praying that she not take her final breath. She knew what it took to heal humans, that they could be put into the service of kindred as Ghouls but she had sworn she would never do it. She would never force someone into that kind of enslavement against their will. But this was her prize, her secret obsession…and she would die without it. It took some cleaning up, but she covered the murder of the man in the alley way in such a way that made it appear as though he had been mugged and robbed and then picked the girl up and brought her home to Hope.
She used Josephina as a lure for the vermin of the street to feed, after all, What was the harm in feeding on men, if they deserved it? She would never feed on anyone if they hadn’t done anything that Lillian deemed “sin-worthy”. But God help you if you had sinned, for you may not make it out alive. Lillian killed a number of mortals in her first few nights of feeding on human blood. Alexandre and her Uncle Johnathon Strange helped her cover her tracks and soon she was a huntress unrivaled.
Lillian became fascinated with the art of ‘ghouling’. Over the years, it is said that she had over 40 ghouls, but none ever held her fascination as firmly as Josephina, who remains at her side to this day, guarded as a treasure. None of the other ghouls have ever made it out alive save for Hattie; A young woman who had blue eyes and blonde ringlets. She was a hippy and part of a “Movement of Love” and Lillian had fallen in love with her passion for making a change in the world. She ghouled Hattie to save her from a drug overdose. When her Sire moved back to Paris, she gave Hattie to him as a parting gift.
In 1985 she went to the Vatican on orders and met Larenzo Salvatore and Valentina Fiore. They were assigned to her as body guards while she was sent on missions to recover artifacts and relics for the church. Her, Hope and the two Nosferatu formed coterie. Together, they traveled around the world collecting artifacts and holy relics for the church. They have returned over 20 items to the church in their years together.
In July of 2015, She and her coterie mates returned to the States in search of a relic that was rumored to be in Virginia. They were able to assist in the recovery of two relics while in Roanoke, VA. They continue to seek items for the church and have settled in Tera Haute, Indiana where they hope to found a Lancea Parish and continue their work.
