Songs to Howl

Metallica - Of Wolf And Man

Bright is the moon, high in starlight
Chill is the air, cold as steel tonight
We shift, call of the wild
Fear in your eyes, it's later than you realized

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising

I hear hurricanes a blowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

David Allen Coe - You Never Even Called Me By My Name

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
And I never minded standin' in the rain
But you don't have to call me darlin', darlin'
You never even called me by my name

Johny Cash - A Boy Named Sue

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls. - George Carlin

History of this Wolf
Life on Four Paws Stone Gaze was born to a healthy litter of six, on the larger side for the Canadian Timber Wolves. Healthy parents, strong siblings - everything was well in the pack. There were three yearlings in the pack as well - Gaia had blessed the pack with health and success in hunting. In northern British Columbia was where the pack hunted, the wilds were good for them.

He learned, as all pups do, the ways of hunting and pouncing through play with the other pups. The older yearlings were tolerant of his youthful energy, often being cajoled into chasing him around as he loped in the snow. He was a bright pup, quick to learn and quicker to try new things. It was a good time, plenty of prey and all the land they needed to run over. But, as it happens in the world - not all would be so pleasant for the wolves.

The Rage It is said that the Wyrm seeks out those unspoiled areas of Gaia, those pristine wilds where Gaia's creatures thrive. It is also said by some, that North America was pristine until the Wyrmbringers came over from Europe. Stone Gaze would agree with both of these statements. It was in his second year that the world turned dark - that his true purpose in Gaia's plan was revealed.

Fire and death rolled over the area where he called home - poachers came with their fire-sticks. The pack had heard the thunder of the sticks, drawing closer day by day - the scent of sulfur in the air. It wasn't that they were bold, it wasn't that the pack was reckless - they were quite cautious, actually. Still, the wolves did not understand the way of man, having been so far removed. They did not know the cunning of the Wyrm-spewing hunters - did not know the tricks at their disposals.

It was at night - the pack spotted small suns weaving in and out of the trees, the light almost blinding the wolves. The scent of blood and sulfur was in the air. The Alpha and his mate stood defiant, growling and baring teeth to show their resolve. Fire cut them down, fire carried by the two-legged attackers. The older siblings died next, racing in to aid the Alpha. Stone Gaze was among them, fire scorching his side.

The world went red.

When he recovered, when Stone Gaze recovered from the burst of Rage, he was surrounded by the blood-spattered corpses of the hunters. He had saved four of his siblings - the others were lost.

Larger, stronger wolves rushed upon the scene - upon two legs. A mix of the man and wolf, they spoke to Stone Gaze. Words he understood, but did not comprehend. The Wendigo had come for him, come to teach him after his First Change.

A Name Earned He learned again - a cub again. While his learning from his parents was helpful, it was only a drop in the bucket of what he needed to know. There was a whole new society to understand, not wolf or man, but a jumbled mix of both and neither. Still, he was not a slouch of a student. The young Garou was focused and determined, even when faced with learning the language and customs of the monkeys.

He learned that he was born under the warrior face of Luna, that his role was to battle and lead as necessary. Rage and anger was easy to come by, the memories of his slain family still fresh in his mind. He often attacked with savagery that startled his mentors - unbridled rage that was impossible to deny. The Den Mother focused him further, daily drills and lessons to strengthen his resolve and quench some of the uncontrolled anger he carried.

When it came time for his Rite of Passage, he was sent alongside several other cubs to assault a warehouse that held Wyrm-tainted weapons. Weapons that were being distributed to hunters, poachers and civilian collectors in the area. Weapons that were used in the slaying of his family.

The battle was brutal and savage, many of the workers were warped Fomori. Through the fight, through the numerous foes, Stone Gaze kept his Rage contained - focusing the weapon instead of letting it run rampant over him. Two of the five cubs sent were slain, their bodies brought back and cleansed. Stone Gaze earned his first deed name from the stories of one of the other cubs - how his howl at the end of the battle shook the very building with the intensity of his Rage. He was now Howls of Rage, a Cliath of the Nation.

Glory Found The Ahroun was quick to aid others of his Tribe, joining the pack of Sky Riders after gaining his Cliath rank. An all Native pack, made up of Uktena, Wendigo and Red Talons - the pack was dedicated to war under Wendigo's name. The pack roamed the northwest, cleansing and eradicating any Wyrm foes they ran across. Stone Gaze learned more of the human side of the society, having several missions which required the pack to enter the Scab in order to remove agents of the Wyrm. It was there he selected his monkey name, the name coming to mind after clearing out a particularly tainted honky-tonk.

Glory and honor came quickly to the brave Full Moon, his challenge for Fostern coming within the year. Upon approaching his Alpha for his rank challenge, he was surprised to find that it would be a formal duel between himself and his Alpha, Rain of Pine. The battle was savage, both walking away with deep wounds to heal - however Stone Gaze was the victor. He was given the name of Proud Lightning for the speed and ferocity he showed in the duel.

The Howl is Answered Stone Gaze travelled about the Northwest as well as the Umbra, tasked with various missions and quests with his pack. Many battles were fought, enemies crushed. But as is the way of the Wyrm, there are always more to defeat. It is a never-ending tide of battles, the days where your life is at risk are countless. Stone Gaze rose in prominence, his tales growing longer and more epic with every passing moon.

Eventually, it came to pass that he was ready to challenge for Adren. Again, he went to a ranking Ahroun - this time his challenge was one of endurance. He was to stand his ground in the center of a circle, while the Sept took turns beating and berating him - trying to force him to lose control. Insults, rocks, branches, claws - all struck the silent Garou repeatedly. His control did not waver, his face did not flinch. He was rited Stone Gaze, for the countenance he kept through out the trials.

Words of this Wolf
"My brother, when you were born, you cried and Gaia rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, Gaia cries and you rejoice." ~Kanaka Wild Wind
"Rage, directed to the solitary purpose of war. My brother wastes nothing, born to the wilds he is the reminder to me of our duality. He challenges me, ensures that our focus is always sharp--I could not ask for  more." ~Walks the Storm
"The wisdom of yuna:wik'o tells us that we must be loyal to pack and family, but within that loyalty retain the self, the individual. He reminds me of why I should be more wolf, and that old dogs can learn new tricks" ~K'yak'yali's Herald
"Some of us use words as weapons, and it's a skill many underestimate. Still rarer, though, is the way of letting words flow over you and around you til they turn as weapons back on their speaker. Stone Gaze is a boulder in a river; just as unassailable, and just as staunch. All I wonder is how long he'll suffer the river's flow before he shifts... and in shifting, changes its course." ~Laughs Last
"The great War Alpha of Little Brother, I am honored to call him ally." ~Hard Decisions
