The Grey House is a lineage of Malkavians of the Camarilla descended from Walter Jones, a.k.a. Walter the Grey, the youngest childe of Camilla Baines, a Founder of the Camarilla and first Malkavian Justicar. Jones was released from the Accounting mere weeks before Baines's destruction by the Sabbat in 1595.

Through its patriarch, The Grey House is closely affiliated with House Oculus, an overlapping body.

Known to Members
To some degree, the Grey House is characterized by the nature of the relationships its patriarch Walter Jones, a.k.a. Walter the Grey has with its members. He does not appear to enforce any particularly strict command over his progeny, and has been known to speak about the need of each Kindred to undergo certain stages of existence, including the rebellion (or recklessness) of neonates. As a result of this style, and the fact that Walter Jones has carefully chosen his childer over the centuries, ties within the House appear to be closer at the House's uppermost levels, whereas the House's ancillae and neonates appear to choose more freely just how closely they associate with their patriarch, and variation in mindset and philosophy seems to increase with removal from the House's patriarch in the lineage. According to Walter Jones himself, this is a natural result of Kindred arising from different temporal and cultural origins in the course of human history and this is no more unusual than the differences between himself and the general tendencies of other members of House Oculus, who similarly arise from a variety of places and times touched by his sire Camilla Baines. Despite this variation and tolerance of variations in thought within the House, Jones does keep some sense of cohesion in the House and actively addresses the House on occasion.

About the Hand Sigil
Scholars familiar with 16th century occult scholastic texts will easily recognize the hand from Three Books of Occult Philosophy by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa (1533; Book II, Part 3). What is less clear is why Walter Jones, who is known to support Clan Tremere and even lived in Vienna for many years but is no thaumaturge himself, chose this sigil to represent his House.

OOC Information for Prospective Members

Chronological/Story Constraints on Membership in the Grey House
Because Walter Jones, a.k.a. Walter the Grey was only embraced in 1591 and was not released from the Accounting until 1595 (Geneva, Switzerland), it is not possible to be older than that and be in the Grey House. Because Camilla Baines was assassinated only weeks after his release, members of the Grey House never had the chance to meet Camilla Baines themselves as Kindred. It is likely that she is elevated as a role model and matriarch in their eyes due to the influence of Walter's own perspective on his sire. (Walter Jones, a.k.a. Walter the Grey himself has the Innate *Loyal* status due to the Prestigious Sire merit.)

Due to his personal development, Walter Jones did not go by "Walter the Grey" until 1660, after a mental/emotional upheaval in the wake of his sire's death that resulted in a major shift of character. Thus, childer Embraced before 1660 are highly unlikely. When it comes down to it, the Elders of the Grey House are quite young as Elders go, and will have been born of the Early Modern Era, the Age of European Colonialism, or the Industrial Revolution rather than the medieval or Renaissance periods of so many other Elders (such as Walter's older broodmates). This makes the Grey House a good fit for Machiavellian Prodigy Elders, Ancillae, and Neonates (including old neonates).

The Grey House Players
We don't restrict membership in this House as group. If you talk to us and can find a sire, it's easy. If there's no sire for you in the House already, we can work together to figure out NPC connections. So the issue is finding/arranging a sire, not getting vetted by all the players.

If you would like to play a member of The Grey House, contact John Scott at onman@justoneman.net.

Mood Media
For the House, every player is invited to contribute a media link here to represent their PC's contribution to the flavor of The Grey House:
